Our main herd of miniature cattle are kept at Singer Farm on Vashon Island. Here, amidst the rolling pastures and surrounded by the gorgeous Puget Sound, our cattle thrive under the care and stewardship of our dedicated family. Additionally, we have a smaller farm located in Buckley, near the base of Mount Rainier. This secondary location helps us extend our commitment to raising healthy and happy miniature cattle and sharing them with more families across the Pacific Northwest.
Singer Farm was started in 1940 when George Singer moved to the island with his family on his fifth birthday. Nearly thirty years later he returned to the island after graduating from Washington State University and retiring from the Army where he was a pilot and deployed overseas as a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam. Upon his return, George grew the farms beef cattle herd to be a successful self sustaining operation.
Tori Nelson, the other half of Rainier Cattle Company, also grew up on Vashon Island. While in high school she kept her horse at George’s farm and began helping with the cattle herd, sparking what would turn into a career focused on cattle and marking the beginning of a collaborative journey. Tori’s passion for cows led her to pursue a degree at Washington State University, specializing in beef cattle and ranch management. With her expertise and dedication, she transitioned into managing the herd, striving to optimize their well-being and productivity. Recognizing the challenges posed by larger cattle breeds, Tori spearheaded a strategic shift towards smaller-framed varieties. This transformation led to the evolution of our program, focusing on micro and miniature Highland, High Park, and Highland Aberdeen cattle. Today, guided by Tori’s leadership and George’s wisdom, Rainier Cattle Company stands as a testament to innovation and adaptability in the pursuit of excellence in miniature cattle breeding and ranching practices.
